Principal Pathways for Spread of the Species

The principle pathways for the spread of the species in the ERFT catchments are: biosec03 300

  • Deliberate introduction
  • Migration
  • Natural dispersal
  • Escapes from fish farms, ponds, gardens, desmesnes.
  • Movement of contaminated soils or vehicles
  • Improper control and disposal measures e.g. cutting and dumping without treatment.

To prevent the spread of these INNS and diseases these pathways need to be restricted and where possible and feasible existing populations controlled or eradicated and their impacts mitigated. This would entail putting a set of biosafety measures.
